As we move into the second half of the season, the Big Bash League is certainly living up to the hype. The level of cricket on display has been outstanding, with some fantastic catches, innings and games played so far. With the tournament nearing its conclusion, we take a look at the teams that are in contention to lift the trophy this year.

Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers are one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament. Even though they’ve lost some key players, they still look very strong and settled. Their core group of Australian players have been playing exceptionally well. Josh Inglis is hitting boundaries left and right and is in the form of his life. Additionally, their death bowlers have been executing yorkers flawlessly and have been a big reason for their success. Perth Scorchers are a force to be reckoned with and will be looking to add another BBL trophy to their collection.

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder has been playing some excellent cricket lately and their batting lineup is definitely one of the best in the tournament. Alex Hales and Oliver Davies have been in great form, and Daniel Sams has been providing them with the extra power they need at the end of innings. The only area they need to work on is their bowling at the death.

Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers have been one of the best teams in the last three seasons of the tournament, having lifted the title already. However, they have been a little hot and cold this season, winning some and losing some games. Josh Phillipe has been the sole fighter for some games and barring a game where Moses Henriques helped them over the line, their form has been a little on and off. However, if you have been following Big Bash for quite some time, you will know that all these players are seasoned campaigners.

Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart Hurricanes are going through a tough patch at the moment, but they have the potential to turn things around. They have some of the most powerful hitters in the tournament on their team, including Tim David, Matthew Wade and Asif Ali. Shadab Khan has also added some much-needed balance to the team. Even though they’re not doing well at the moment, we expect them to finish in the top 4 or even the top 2.

Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades have a lot of potential, but they haven’t performed as well as they could have. With players like Sam Harper, Maddinson, Finch, Shaun Marsh, and Andre Rusell in their lineup, they should be winning more games. Additionally, the Renegades have some very good bowlers, led by Kane Richardson. We expect them to play better in the later stages of the tournament and finish strong despite being near the bottom of the points table. The Melbourne Renegades are the dark horses to lift this year’s BBL title.
