The 2023 Women’s IPL auction is tentatively scheduled for February 11, pending official confirmation. The base price for the inaugural auction of the WIPL has been divided into five categories, ranging from INR 10 lakh to INR 50 lakh. The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has set a deadline for registrations for the auction on January 26.

In the document titled ‘Guidance note for Indian players’ shared by the board with the Indian players, the base price – also termed as the ‘reserve price’ – for capped Indian players starts at INR 30 lakh. Furthermore, uncapped cricketers have been given two options to set themselves at a price of INR 10 lakh and INR 20 lakh.

The apex cricket board has called for applications to be submitted for the player auction, which is most likely going to take place in February. The date will be finalised soon. This league is set up to replace the Women’s T20 Challenge, which was a two-team tournament in 2018 that expanded to three teams in 2019. The most recent edition was played in 2020 and 2022.

Players to register for the WIPL with their respective State Associations and not agents or managers, as stated in the BCCI directive. Any failure to do so will result in the player’s name being immediately withdrawn from the Auction Register and/or Auction List.

The inaugural edition of the WIPL will be played from the start of March till the end of the same month and the entirety of the event could be played in Maharashtra. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings are all believed to be interested in owning a team in the competition.
