The IPL mini-auction saw some intense bidding as 405 players went under the hammer in Kochi. England’s Sam Curran was the big winner, signing for Punjab Kings for INR 18.50 crore. Other overseas stars like Ben Stokes, Nicholas Pooran, and Cameron Green also fetched big bucks, while Mayank Agarwal became the most expensive Indian cricketer.
However, some big names also went unsold. Joe Root was the first player to go unsold, but he was later signed by Rajasthan Royals for his base price in the last round of accelerated auction.
English players dominated the auction, but some big names like Tom Banton, Chris Jordan, Will Smeed, Tom Curran, Luke Wood, Jamie Overton, and Rehan Ahmed failed to attract bidders. Dawid Malan was the biggest surprise, going unsold despite being England’s highest-ranked batter in ICC T20I Batters chart. Sandeep Sharma, Shreyas Gopal, and Shashank Singh were among the notable unsold players from India.
